Due to the SHORTAGE of providers – Providers / Agencies must be given an increase in pay for retention of therapists & to offset the requirement for advanced degrees / student loans (PT requires a doctorate, OT requires a master’s degree but is moving towards a doctorate, ST requires a master’s). Evidence clearly shows an enormous impact of cost savings for the future  of a child with a “different” ability in getting EI as it significantly changes the child’s developmental trajectory and the family’s future. It has been too long that not enough NYS attention has been given to the professionals in this field and compensating them for the amazing work they do. Any concerns about the present cost of EI should be met with the fact that – every $1 spent in EI the state saves $17 in the future on that child & family’s productivity in society and well as decreasing that child & family’s reliance on future assistance/ programs.
